Hi! My name is Tammy. I live in Sugar Land, Texas, a beautiful suburb of Houston, with my husband, son, and 2 cats.

My background is in the biological sciences. I attended a PhD program in molecular virology and worked in immunology labs for many years.

In general, I just love to learn and to dig deeper into new things. I also love to make, create, and design. So after some mental and physical health problems kept me from continuing in the sciences, my husband and I made the decision that I would work as a homemaker. This gave me the incredible opportunity to learn lots of fun new skills – home repair, gardening, cooking, baking, finances – and the chance to develop many new interests in things like programming and social justice.

It also let me get back into a childhood love of crafting. I would do latch hook and cross stitch kits when I was a kid. Then in college I learned crochet and knitting. Over the past 10+ years, I’ve learned more and more techniques and developed a real joy in making gifts for people.

As I further developed my skills and passion for yarn, I decided to create a this space where I could expand my work and provide others with the perfect handmade gifts for their loved ones.

The name for this space came from one of my favorite writers and her poem ‘To Make a Prairie.’ Her words provide optimism in the face of adversity – that your dreams can be a tool of creation even when you don’t feel complete.
